About Barns Cottage

We bought Barns in 2005, it having been left unoccupied for several years. Despite the crumbling walls, failing roof and general feel of dilapidation, we could see the potential to restore this house into the home we know and love today.

We inverted the house by moving the lounge and kitchen upstairs into an open-plan area and moved two of the bedrooms downstairs. We then backfilled the yard which was mainly hard rock, to the level of the upstairs floor and created the large outdoor patio area and raised diases.

We also imported a large amount of stone from a Welsh quarry and over several months of cutting and placing, built the drystone fireplace and outside walls.

We have turned an old farm barn into a contemporary dwelling that has open ceilings and polished wooden floors. Despite the clean lines and uncluttered space, Barns retains a cosy feel due to the underfloor heating, suspended fireplace and large slouchy pink couch. All this makes it an attractive destination all year round.

An open-plan kitchen/living room with breakfast bar and a large L shaped couch facing the wall mounted TV and suspened fireplace in the corner.

The main bedroom is adjacent to the lounge and has a four posted king size bed and the stone bath. There is an ensuite bathroom with a shower and toilet and rain sensored velux windows to the outside.

The entrace hallway has a double bedroom to the left with a four poster king size bed. Straight on is the bunk room and to the left of that is the downstairs bathroom and utility room that houses the boiler, washing machine, and tumble dryer.

Sliding doors from the upstairs lunge lead to the patio which is backed by the stone fireplace. Landscaped gardens highlighted by the mirrored sculpture and also a metal sculpture of a wave to the left of the patio. On the right hand side is the hot tub. There are semi-rural views from the back yard, looking towards Chapel Hill where legend has a rampant pig destroying the church which you can see the ruins of.

There is parking for one car in the integral garage that is accessed via the courtyard.

Bed linen is provided but we ask guests to bring their own beach towels. Smoking is not permitted. Travel cot available (but no linen), stairgate also available.
